.The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has accused former Senate President Bukola Saraki of hypocrisy, claiming he is presenting himself as an opposition leader locally while allegedly seeking personal gains from the ruling party in Abuja.
The party, through its spokesperson Abdulwaheed Babatunde, issued the statement on Friday, urging Saraki to address the claims that he publicly aligns with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara but secretly backs President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
Babatunde described such conduct — if true — as double-dealing, disloyal, and deceptive, arguing that it undermines the trust of supporters who have remained loyal to Saraki.
“Since Prof. Sulaiman Abubakar raised the allegation during a radio session, we have observed coordinated attempts by some individuals to defend him and smear the whistleblower,” Babatunde said. “This is both unwise and unacceptable. What is expected of the former Senate president is to clarify these serious claims.”
The APC spokesperson added that the allegations are consistent with Saraki’s long-standing political style, portraying him as self-serving and cunning.
“It only confirms the vintage Saraki: strategic, deceptive, unprincipled, and loyal to himself above all else,” Babatunde remarked.
He also referenced Saraki’s 2015 election as Senate president, alleging that he betrayed party leadership and disrespected President Tinubu in the process, further highlighting a pattern of political opportunism.
“Anyone wishing to associate with this winning team should do so openly and transparently, without attempting backdoor deals or gamesmanship,” Babatunde warned.
He concluded by asserting that any attempt to benefit from the ruling party while maintaining opposition posturing elsewhere would be “treacherous and unacceptable.”
