The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has accused former Senate President Bukola Saraki of political hypocrisy, claiming he portrays himself as a local opposition figure while allegedly seeking personal advantage from the ruling party at the federal level.
Through spokesperson Abdulwaheed Babatunde, the APC issued a statement on Friday urging Saraki to respond to allegations that he publicly aligns with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara but covertly supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election efforts.
Babatunde described such behavior — if proven true — as disloyal, deceptive, and a betrayal of the trust of Saraki’s supporters. “Since Prof. Sulaiman Abubakar raised the allegation during a radio session, we have observed coordinated attempts by some individuals to defend him and smear the whistleblower,” he said. “This is both unwise and unacceptable. What is expected of the former Senate president is to clarify these serious claims.”
The spokesperson also suggested that the allegations fit a pattern of Saraki’s political approach, portraying him as strategic, self-serving, and opportunistic. “It only confirms the vintage Saraki: strategic, deceptive, unprincipled, and loyal to himself above all else,” Babatunde remarked.
He referenced Saraki’s 2015 election as Senate president, claiming the former lawmaker undermined party leadership and showed disrespect to President Tinubu, further pointing to a history of political maneuvering for personal gain.
Babatunde cautioned that anyone wishing to work with the APC should do so transparently and openly, without attempting secret deals or hidden agendas. “Anyone wishing to associate with this winning team should do so openly and transparently, without attempting backdoor deals or gamesmanship,” he said.
He concluded by emphasizing that any effort to profit from the ruling party while publicly maintaining opposition alignment would be considered “treacherous and unacceptable.”
