The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized remarks by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), regarding his plan to monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party described Kwankwaso’s comments as “confusing and unnecessary,” asserting that the NNPP leader no longer holds significant influence in Nigeria’s political arena.

Speaking to The PUNCH on Sunday, APC Public Relations Officer in Kano, Hon. Ahmad Aruwa, said the former governor’s statements reflected a lack of political clarity.

“He is confused and has reached an age where he seems to be losing track of Nigerian politics. I believe he already lost the election,” Aruwa said.

Aruwa questioned Kwankwaso’s authority within the NNPP, noting, “He is not the legitimate leader of the NNPP, and he is not even a candidate of any party. So, who is he monitoring INEC activities for?”

The APC official further reassured that all necessary measures have been taken to secure victory in Kano State and expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and in the electoral commission.

“Our former governor, Ganduje, has been fully briefed and is satisfied with the arrangements. APC is confident in INEC so far,” Aruwa said.

Highlighting Tinubu’s approach to governance, he added, “The President is appointing professionals to key positions. We trust INEC to conduct free and fair elections for all parties.”

Aruwa cited past experiences at the Supreme Court as evidence of the transparency of Nigeria’s electoral system, emphasizing, “Even when APC lost at the Supreme Court in previous elections, it demonstrated that the system works and is fair.”

He accused Kwankwaso of attempting to undermine public trust in INEC due to fear of electoral defeat.

“He knows he won’t win, which is why he is making such comments. We urge the public to ignore him and stop giving credence to his claims,” he added.

Kwankwaso’s INEC Statement
Gossip News Now reports that the former senator made the comments during the NNPP national convention in Abuja last Saturday, shortly after the re-election of party executives led by Ahmed Ajuji. Addressing INEC representatives and delegates, Kwankwaso praised the commission’s role in safeguarding democracy, stressing the importance of vigilance ahead of 2027.

“Let me thank everyone, especially those who came from afar. I appreciate the INEC representatives present today and, through you, congratulate the newly appointed National Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan. So far so good; we are keeping our eyes on INEC because its role is critical to the success of our democracy,” he said.

Reiterating the APC’s stance, Aruwa encouraged Nigerians to trust INEC’s professionalism, warning that attempts to discredit the commission are politically motivated. He affirmed that the ruling party is fully prepared for the 2027 elections.
