The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations linking it to the ongoing leadership turmoil within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting the situation was created internally by the opposition party.
Speaking during a televised interview, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made it clear that the ruling party has remained focused on strengthening its own political structure rather than interfering in the affairs of rivals.
He stressed that recent developments—particularly the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from certain ADC leaders—were not influenced by the APC in any way.
Gossip News Now reports that Morka described the crisis as entirely self-generated, pointing out that the controversy surrounding figures like David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola stemmed from actions taken within the ADC itself rather than any external manipulation.
According to the APC spokesperson, the root of the dispute lies in what he portrayed as a failure to respect the ADC’s own constitutional guidelines. He suggested that attempts to assume leadership positions without following established procedures naturally led to the current fallout.
Reframing his position in stronger terms, Morka indicated that when individuals attempt to take control of a political structure without aligning with its legal framework, consequences are inevitable. He emphasized that internal rules governing succession and leadership cannot be bypassed without repercussions.
He further argued that those now pointing fingers at the APC are, in fact, responsible for creating the situation they are complaining about. In his view, the blame lies squarely with those who allegedly disregarded due process within the opposition party.
The controversy intensified after INEC removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official records as national chairman and secretary of the ADC, a move that has sparked widespread reactions among party members and political observers.
Commentary & Analysis
The APC’s response reflects a broader political strategy of distancing itself from opposition crises while reinforcing its image as a party focused on internal stability. By framing the ADC’s challenges as self-inflicted, the ruling party aims to avoid being drawn into allegations of interference.
At the same time, the situation highlights ongoing concerns about internal governance within political parties in Nigeria. Leadership disputes, especially those tied to constitutional interpretation, often expose structural weaknesses that can affect party credibility.
As tensions continue, the role of INEC remains crucial in maintaining neutrality and enforcing compliance with electoral guidelines. How the ADC resolves its internal conflict may ultimately shape its political strength ahead of future elections.
