A governorship aspirant in Ekiti State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abimbola Olawunmi, has accused the party of imposing incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its candidate ahead of the 2026 election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Olawunmi declared that he would not support Oyebanji’s candidacy, claiming the process that produced him was neither democratic nor transparent.

“If the process that made Governor Oyebanji the APC candidate for 2027 had been fair, I could support him. However, since the process is fundamentally flawed, I cannot offer my support,” he said.

Olawunmi argued that Ekiti residents had already expressed dissatisfaction with the governor’s leadership and would not vote for him in the upcoming election.

“The people of Ekiti State have made it clear that they do not intend to vote for him. If he lacked the confidence to contest fairly in the primaries, how does he expect to win the general election?” he questioned.

Gossip News Now reports that the APC on Monday affirmed Governor Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election during a meeting in Ado-Ekiti.

The motion was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Stephen Aribasoye.

Chairman of the Affirmation Congress Committee, Ahmed Ododo, praised the governor’s performance, saying his achievements across various sectors justified the party’s decision.

He added that the APC remained “a disciplined party that has earned the trust of the people through Governor Oyebanji’s leadership style.”
