The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that at least four sitting governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) are in advanced talks to defect to the ruling party before the end of 2025.

APC’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, made this known in an interview with The Punch, listing the governors of Plateau, Taraba, Rivers, and Abia as those being courted by the party.

Four Governors In Talks To Join APC

According to Arodiogbu, discussions with the affected governors have reached advanced stages, describing their possible defection as “highly likely” in the coming weeks.

“It is a possibility that the Plateau governor will join us, likewise his Taraba counterpart. We are also looking forward to receiving Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State into our midst,” he said.

“These are all high possibilities. We expect that to happen before our congresses and definitely before the end of this year. Once they join, it will further confirm that the APC remains the dominant and most organized political platform in Nigeria.”

Why APC Is Attracting Opposition Governors

Arodiogbu explained that the APC’s open-door policy and reform-driven agenda have made it more appealing to opposition leaders seeking a stable political home.

“The truth is that the APC has become a home for all progressives. We are not just expanding in numbers but in quality leadership,” he noted.
“Governors and other political figures now see the APC as the platform that guarantees stability and direction for Nigeria’s democracy.”

He further praised the inclusive leadership style of the party’s National Chairman, who, he said, has encouraged dialogue and unity within the party’s ranks.

“The national chairman has made it clear that the APC is not shutting its doors to anyone. We are reaching out to people of goodwill who believe in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added.

Defections To Boost APC Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The APC vice chairman maintained that the expected wave of defections would further consolidate the ruling party’s dominance as it prepares for its 2025 congresses and the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that the ongoing political realignments reflect growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and vision for national development.
