The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified its position on the political expectations of recently defecting governors, declaring that membership in the ruling party does not automatically translate into nomination privileges ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party leaders emphasized that all aspirants — regardless of status or political background — must participate in the established internal selection process. The clarification follows growing speculation that governors who recently joined the APC might receive preferential treatment during future primaries.

According to senior party figures, democratic competition remains central to the APC’s internal structure. An official within the National Working Committee explained that the party’s constitution does not permit automatic candidacies, insisting that every aspirant must earn support through legitimate political engagement.

The policy affects several high-profile governors who recently moved into the ruling party, including Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
