The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has insisted that the ruling party continues to maintain a significant political advantage over the African Democratic Congress (ADC), dismissing suggestions that the opposition coalition poses a serious challenge.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Yilwatda described the ADC as lacking the capacity to rival the APC’s political structure and nationwide influence. He argued that the ruling party enjoys broader support across the country and remains confident about its dominance.
Yilwatda referenced several notable political figures associated with the opposition alliance, including former Senate President David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, as well as former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola. Despite their political experience, he maintained that their collective influence does not threaten the APC.
According to him, recent defections of governors and other political actors from opposition parties into the APC demonstrate the growing acceptance of the ruling party. He stressed that these movements reflect genuine political support rather than pressure or coercion.
The APC chairman further emphasised that the party remains confident and unshaken by opposition alliances, noting that the APC’s strength is rooted in voluntary membership and widespread public backing.
He asserted that the numerical advantage of the APC clearly outweighs that of the ADC, stating that for every member the ADC claims, the APC has multiple supporters.
Addressing allegations that civil servants are being forced to join the ruling party, Yilwatda dismissed the claims as false. He challenged those making the accusations to provide credible evidence to support their assertions.
He maintained that the APC has never pressured or compelled any government worker to become a party member, adding that he would publicly apologise if anyone could present proof showing otherwise.
