The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming that the opposition party is intimidated by the overwhelming response to the APC’s ongoing membership registration exercise.
In a statement on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka responded to ADC’s allegations that the ruling party is coercing civil servants in several states to register for the electronic membership drive.
On Sunday, ADC accused the APC of applying economic pressure to force public servants to join the party, warning that such actions violate constitutional rights and compromise the neutrality of the civil service. The statement, signed by ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, described the practice as “economic coercion” and “forced membership.”
The APC, however, dismissed these claims, calling them part of ADC’s disinformation campaign. The ruling party emphasized that millions of Nigerians are voluntarily registering due to the impact of its policies, while the ADC, intimidated by the success of the e-registration, is spreading falsehoods.
The APC statement read:
“Terrified by the massive turnout in the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic-registration exercise, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has made baseless claims that civil servants are being pressured to participate.
“This allegation is entirely false and seeks to undermine the innovative digitization of our Party’s membership register. It forms part of ADC’s disinformation campaign, which even included circulation of a fake ‘APC membership slip’ claiming a notorious terrorist had registered.
“Millions of Nigerians, inspired by the successes of the Renewed Hope Agenda, have registered and continue to register voluntarily and enthusiastically, prompting our leadership to extend the registration period from January 31 to February 8, 2026.
“The phenomenal success of our e-registration has clearly intimidated ADC, but this does not justify spreading lies to discredit the process. While ADC continues to peddle falsehoods, our Party remains focused on advancing as Africa’s leader in digital and democratic innovation.”
