APC Supporters Demand Wike’s Removal, Accuse Him of Anti-Party Behaviour

A coalition of party stakeholders under the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM) has called for the immediate dismissal of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accusing him of insubordination, actions against party interest, and behaviour they claim threatens national stability.

In an open letter dated January 7, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu through the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the coalition argued that Wike’s conduct as a former Rivers State governor is incompatible with serving in an APC-led administration.

The letter, which was jointly signed by leaders of the two groups, was released on Wednesday during a peaceful demonstration held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

According to the coalition, the rally is part of a broader effort to “protect party integrity, uphold democratic principles, and sustain the Renewed Hope Agenda” of the Tinubu government.

The letter was signed by ALF and TSSM leaders—Emeka Okoro, Adekunle Balogun, Ibrahim Yusuf, and Abdulkareem Isiaka—who identified themselves as committed supporters of President Tinubu.

At the center of their complaints are accusations that Wike, who is not officially registered as an APC member, has continued to challenge the authority of the party’s national leadership and undermine internal unity.

The groups pointed to remarks Wike allegedly made on January 5, 2026, during a visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he reportedly accused APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of meddling in Rivers politics for personal advantage.

Wike’s warning that those who interfere in Rivers affairs would “get their fingers burnt” was described in the letter as intimidation and a direct affront to the APC National Working Committee.

The coalition further alleged that Wike has been actively working against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whom they regard as the party’s legitimately elected leader in Rivers State.

Part of the letter reads, “Wike’s continued vendetta against Governor Siminalayi Fubara… amounts to deliberate sabotage. He has mocked the governor, labelled his election a ‘mistake’ that must be corrected in 2027, and accused him of betrayal and incompetence.”

They warned that such behaviour, if unchecked, could weaken the APC’s influence in Rivers State—an area they consider crucial for future electoral victories.

Beyond internal party issues, the groups criticised Wike for making statements they believe challenge presidential authority and threaten national security, including his comment suggesting that no one can enter Rivers State without consequences.

They described the remark as a disguised threat that could heighten tensions in the Niger Delta and encourage disorder.

According to them, implying restricted access to any Nigerian state is an affront to the President’s power as Commander-in-Chief.

The coalition also faulted Wike for allegedly claiming to control “two political parties” while serving as a federal minister, calling it an unacceptable conflict of interest and a breach of party loyalty.

They warned that keeping Wike in the cabinet could push the APC into unwanted internal crises ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition leaders further revealed plans to widen their demonstrations nationwide, promising to mobilise supporters at state and local government levels until Wike is removed from office.

They also urged President Tinubu to demonstrate that no individual is above party rules or national interest, reaffirming their allegiance to his administration and re-election efforts.
