The Forum of Ward Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo State, has strongly condemned what it described as the brutal attack on the Ward 8 Chairman, Oluwadare Olanrewaju, allegedly orchestrated by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (Central), Oluwafemi Fadairo, widely known as “Fada.”
According to reports, the conflict reportedly erupted between the two men over funds provided by Governor Aiyedatiwa during his appreciation tour to the area.
In a statement issued by the forum, they alleged that Fadairo—who recently contested for a House of Representatives seat for Akure South/Akure North constituency—led a group of thugs to physically assault Olanrewaju because of disagreements surrounding the sharing arrangement for the ₦1 million given to each ward during the governor’s visit.
The statement further claimed that Fadairo demanded that Olanrewaju add the names of his personal loyalists to the list of beneficiaries, but the ward chairman refused to alter the official list.
Olanrewaju is said to be in a coma following the violent attack.
“When he refused to adjust the list, the intimidation began,” the forum recounted.
“He was repeatedly threatened, stalked, and eventually beaten until he lost consciousness. He had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency care.
“Leadership should be about protection, not harm. Anyone who encourages violence is unworthy of public office,” the statement added.
The forum described the incident as disgraceful and unacceptable, particularly coming from someone associated with the governor’s office. They confirmed that the matter has been formally reported to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 17, Akure.
