Fresh political discussions have emerged following analysis suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s decision to deny automatic re-election tickets to incumbents may carry deeper strategic implications beyond party reform.

Anthony Ikila, Director of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, offered this perspective during a televised morning programme, where he examined how the policy could influence internal party balance ahead of future elections.

Rather than viewing the directive as a routine organisational rule, Ikila argued that such decisions often reflect underlying power negotiations within major political parties. He indicated that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara may be among those most affected by the new approach.
