Arise News has announced the funeral plans for its late journalist, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, who tragically lost her life during an armed robbery attack at her Abuja residence on September 29, 2025.

According to the network, an evening of tributes will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the THISDAY Dome, located in the Central Business District of Abuja.

This will be followed by a service of songs on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.

Maduagwu will be laid to rest in her hometown, Agulu, Anambra State, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, following a funeral mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, the station confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday.

Somtochukwu Maduagwu, aged 29, was a lawyer, model, and accomplished broadcaster who worked as an anchor, reporter, and producer at Arise News until her untimely death.

She was killed during a violent robbery in the Katampe area of Abuja, where a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, was also fatally attacked.

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects connected to the incident.

Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh revealed that preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a cross-border arms trafficking network.

“Preliminary findings showed that the syndicate procured its weapons — including a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a pistol — from an arms dealer operating along the Nigeria–Niger border,” Adeh stated.

The police paraded the 12 arrested suspects before journalists on Saturday as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the broadcaster’s tragic death.
