The Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, Asari Dokubo, has declared that he will throw his full support behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Gossip News Now reports that Dokubo made the commitment on Tuesday when the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.
He explained that his decision stems from the loyalty President Tinubu showed him during challenging seasons of his life, noting that supporting Tinubu’s reelection would be his way of repaying that gesture.
In his words, “As you rightly pointed out, my friend, I will stand with you in ensuring that the President succeeds. Everything within my power will be done to support him.”
Dokubo went on to recount the long-standing relationship between them, saying, “When we first met in 1992, I was not yet a traditional ruler. I never imagined I would rise to where I am today. He stood by me during my toughest moments, and now it is my turn to stand by him and give him my support.”
Earlier, Wike noted that his visit to the community was aimed at expressing appreciation to the people for their support and to outline reasons why they should stand behind President Tinubu in the 2027 election cycle.
He also expressed gratitude to Dokubo for the warm hospitality he received during the visit.
Wike added, “I understand that traditional rulers do not engage in partisan politics. However, you are my friend, and it would have been inappropriate for me to be in your domain without greeting you and wishing you a happy new year.”
