Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has officially left the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gossip News Now reports that Abba, as he is widely known, confirmed his defection on Thursday at the National Assembly.

According to Vanguard, his entry into the APC was formalized in the presence of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North), along with key party figures from the North-East region.

Addressing the media, Abba explained that his decision was driven by personal convictions and historical considerations.

He also instructed all members of his political network, formerly known as the Haske Atiku Organisation established in 2022, to immediately switch to the APC and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“My name is Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, but everyone knows me as Abba. I am here today to officially announce my departure from my former party, where we worked during the 2023 elections, and to declare my move to the APC,” he stated.

Abba went on to commend Senator Barau Jibrin’s leadership and expressed admiration for the policies and direction of the Tinubu administration.

“With this decision, I will work closely with Senator Barau to help secure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term victory in 2027. Therefore, I am directing all coordinators of my organisation to join the APC and support President Tinubu,” he added.

Welcoming him, APC National Vice Chairman (North-East), Comrade Mustapha Salihu, described the defection as highly significant, noting that it demonstrated “politics without borders.”

“Today is one of my happiest days. This young man has reviewed the policies and achievements of the Tinubu administration and chosen to align with them,” Salihu said, assuring him of equal rights and opportunities within the party.

Senator Barau also commended Abba’s move, calling it a strategic and principled step that strengthens the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“You made a choice rooted in ideology. You did not come here because of your father. You came because you believe in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his vision, and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Barau said.
