‘Avoid a Wike-Like Crisis’ – Dele Momodu Warns ADC Over Rising Internal Aggression

Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has issued a stern warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding growing internal tensions within the party.

Momodu expressed concern over factions attempting to secure the ADC presidential ticket for a specific aspirant without observing proper democratic procedures. He highlighted that such behavior risks destabilizing the party, drawing parallels with internal crises seen in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On his 𝕏 account on Tuesday, in a post titled “My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Wike Scenario”, Momodu reminded party stakeholders that the coalition’s founders had promised a platform rooted in transparency, democracy, and inclusiveness.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining order and discipline, recalling his participation in a historic meeting in Abuja last year where opposition members agreed to establish the ADC as a united opposition platform. “I was in the room when several opposition party members gathered in Abuja last year to agree on ADC as their new platform to challenge the ruling APC. I listened carefully to every speaker. Participation was voluntary. The conveners pledged that ADC would be accessible to all and uphold democratic values. No group or individual would be permitted to cause disorder, as witnessed in PDP, and ADC would maintain internal discipline,” he stated.

While acknowledging the strong leadership of retired General David Mark as chairman, Momodu expressed disappointment that some factions have recently introduced confrontational tactics and hostility, which threaten to undermine the party’s cohesion.

He further criticized the insistence by certain groups to claim the presidential ticket through force or imposition rather than dialogue, consensus-building, or legitimate election processes. Momodu highlighted the dangers of such attitudes, warning that they suggest overconfidence in winning elections without collaboration.

“This is exactly why ADC must act swiftly and uphold discipline before the situation becomes irreversible. This is the same pattern that allowed Nyesom Wike to grip the PDP so tightly that removing him became nearly impossible. ADC should be a party driven by unity, not a chaotic arena of conflict,” Momodu cautioned, urging immediate corrective action to preserve the coalition’s founding principles.
