‘Avoid a Wike-Like Crisis’ – Dele Momodu Warns ADC Over Rising Internal Aggression

Former presidential hopeful Dele Momodu has urged leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to take firm action and restore order within the party before internal tensions escalate beyond control.

Gossip News Now reports that Momodu, in a statement shared on his 𝕏 account on Tuesday titled “My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Wike Scenario”, criticised certain groups within the coalition for introducing hostility and unrest into the party.

The seasoned journalist expressed concern over why some factions are adamant that the ADC presidential ticket must automatically go to a specific aspirant without due democratic process.

Momodu stressed that the original architects of the coalition that adopted ADC had assured stakeholders that the party would remain open, transparent, and committed to democratic principles.

He insisted that no individual or faction should be allowed to destabilize the ADC the way similar actions triggered turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In his statement, Momodu recounted, “I was in the room when several opposition party members gathered in Abuja last year to agree on ADC as their new platform to challenge the ruling APC. I listened carefully to every speaker. Participation was voluntary. The conveners pledged that ADC would be accessible to all and uphold democratic values. No group or individual would be permitted to cause disorder, as witnessed in PDP, and ADC would maintain internal discipline.”

He said he was encouraged by those assurances and noted that with retired General David Mark as chairman, he expected firm leadership and zero tolerance for disorder. However, he lamented that some factions have recently introduced aggression and disruptive behavior into what was meant to be a united coalition.

Momodu questioned how such a coalition could function when some groups are insisting on securing the presidential ticket through imposition rather than through election, consensus-building, or persuasion.

He further criticized the use of insults and confrontational rhetoric, saying such behavior suggests that one faction believes it can win national elections without cooperation from others.

He warned, “This is exactly why ADC must act swiftly and uphold discipline before the situation becomes irreversible. This is the same pattern that allowed Nyesom Wike to grip the PDP so tightly that removing him became nearly impossible. ADC should be a party driven by unity, not a chaotic arena of conflict.”
