The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has denied reports suggesting a dispute with kingmakers over the selection of the new Awujale of Ijebuland, dismissing claims that he attempted to intimidate the Council of Afobajes to support any specific candidate.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the Governor clarified that his engagement with the kingmakers was a respectful consultative meeting, focusing on areas of mutual concern and progress in traditional affairs.

Akinmade emphasized that rumours circulating in some quarters are false and misleading. Statements allegedly made by the Governor, including “No Kuye, No Awujale”, are entirely fabricated and do not reflect the Governor’s views or actions.

“The Governor held a respectful consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, consistent with previous engagements with the Olori Ebis, which had previously been polarised. Through such discussions, he also persuaded one kingmaker to withdraw a filed litigation,” Akinmade stated.

He added, “The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest aimed at promoting progress in traditional affairs within Ijebuland. No threats, ultimatums, or coercive statements were issued. No Afobaje will attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened. These claims are fabrications by mischief makers.”

Akinmade further reiterated the Governor’s commitment to due process, the autonomy of traditional institutions, and fairness in the selection of the new Awujale. He affirmed that the administration continues to prioritize dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values.

“The Governor has consistently demonstrated the high regard he holds for the throne of Awujale. Members of the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media are urged to disregard these unfounded allegations and rely only on verified information from official sources,” he concluded.
