Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and publisher of Ovation Magazine, has said he is not surprised by the defection of former Bayelsa Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Momodu noted that the APC currently enjoys a “smooth political road,” adding that members of the opposition are now seen as “foolish” for refusing to join the ruling party.
Momodu stated, “I watched the development in utter disbelief because I assumed that Ben Murray-Bruce worked with us in the Atiku campaign during the presidential election. That was my belief — perhaps my judgment was wrong.
“However, I respect his constitutional right to freedom of association and movement. So, I have no problem with his decision. Honestly, nothing can shock me anymore when it comes to Nigerian politicians.”
He further explained that some defections are driven by personal ambitions or political convenience.
“Some people have genuine reasons to move from one party to another, especially if they believe their aspirations will be better achieved elsewhere,” Momodu said.
“So, Ben Murray-Bruce moving to the APC is not surprising. That’s where the road is smooth at the moment. Those of us in the opposition are seen as very stupid — not smart enough to join the rat race.”
