Bode George, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), has stressed that the party must uphold the law and demonstrate respect for judicial authority.
According to Gossip News Now, George made the remarks while addressing the controversy surrounding the PDP’s National Convention scheduled for November 15–16.
The party has recently experienced internal disputes, leading to a split into two competing factions.
One faction, loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, while the opposing faction is chaired by Umar Damagum.
Earlier, Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an injunction barring the PDP from holding its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan delivered a conflicting ruling on Friday, permitting the PDP to go ahead with the convention as scheduled.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, George emphasized that a party cannot flout court orders and simultaneously claim it is fit to govern.
He stated, “The PDP is a law-abiding organization. We must show Nigerians that we uphold the rule of law. You cannot ignore a court judgment and then claim to be ready to take over the reins of governance. We must obey the court’s decision.”
