Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has sent a stark message to his star forwards: Neymar and Vinicius Jr are not guaranteed a spot in the 2026 World Cup squad unless they are fully fit and performing at their best.
In an interview with Esporte Record, Ancelotti stressed the importance of peak form in a squad overflowing with attacking talent. “There are many very good players. I need to choose players who are at 100%. It’s not just Neymar, it could be Vinicius,” he explained.
The Italian coach made it clear that fitness will be a decisive factor in his selection. “If Vinicius is at 90%, I’ll call up another player who is at 100%, because this is a team with a very high level of competition, especially in attack,” he added.
Ancelotti’s comments underline the fierce competition within the Selecao squad, where several talented forwards are contending for limited places. Since taking over last summer, Neymar has yet to be called up and has missed eight international matches as a result.
Vinicius Jr also faces scrutiny, with his inclusion contingent on both his physical readiness and consistent performances at club level.
With the 2026 World Cup approaching, both Neymar and Vinicius—who have become stars in European club football—will be under pressure to maintain peak condition and deliver consistently if they hope to feature in Brazil’s squad.
