Chelsea Football Club have reportedly parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca, with the decision taking effect immediately.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the separation followed intense internal tensions that escalated over the past 24 to 48 hours. Romano disclosed the development in a post on social media on Thursday.
“BREAKING: Chelsea and Enzo Maresca agree to part company with immediate effect. It’s over,” Romano wrote.
“Official statement to follow, but everything has been completed after growing tension in the last 24/48 hours. Chelsea will now begin the process of appointing a new manager.”
Earlier reports from Romano had suggested that Chelsea were already preparing for a possible split with Maresca ahead of their scheduled clash against Manchester City, citing a deteriorating working relationship and imminent formal steps.
Chelsea later confirmed the development in an official statement, announcing that Maresca had left the club by mutual consent.
“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup,” the statement read. “Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.
“We wish Enzo well in his future endeavours.”
Chelsea are now expected to move swiftly to identify and appoint a new manager as the season enters a decisive phase.
