Fatima Buhari, daughter of the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has publicly asserted that Tunde Sabiu, her father’s former private secretary, wielded significant power during Buhari’s administration.

In a post shared on Tuesday via her official 𝕏 account, Fatima claimed that Sabiu, also a nephew of the former president, exercised considerable authority within the presidency throughout her father’s tenure. “My father’s former private secretary, Tunde Sabiu, had too much power during Buhari’s presidency,” she wrote.

Tunde Sabiu has been known for his close relationship with President Buhari and has been linked to major policy decisions, notably the controversial naira redesign program introduced before the 2023 general elections.

Fatima’s remarks sparked reactions across social media, with some critics accusing her of leveraging her father’s legacy for attention. One user, Ahmad Sadeeq, commented, “You are using Buhari’s family name to chase clout. Allow him and his family to rest.”

In related revelations, former First Lady Aisha Buhari shared insights into her husband’s personal vulnerabilities, noting that close associates and family members sometimes took advantage of him. She discussed this in the biography From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari by Charles Omole.

Aisha Buhari explained that the late president’s deep trust and affection for extended relatives and long-time friends made him susceptible to manipulation, adding context to public discussions about power and influence within Buhari’s inner circle.
