Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, has spoken out about a claim involving former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Bwala asserts that he knows precisely where the mentally unstable man—allegedly advising Obi during his governorship—once resided.
The revelation came as a reaction to Obi’s assertion that Bwala had never visited Anambra State. Speaking on The Clarity Zone Podcast hosted by Chinedu Emmanuel (popularly known as Nedu), Bwala rejected this claim, insisting that he has not only been to the state multiple times but can also navigate directly to Obi’s home.
“Peter Obi said I have never been to Anambra. That’s not true. I can tell you the exact road to his house. Obi is from Agulu,” Bwala stated, highlighting his familiarity with the area.
Familiarity with Anambra
Bwala went further, describing key towns and routes across the state to underscore his local knowledge.
“From Nnewi, you pass through Umudim, Nnewichi, Uruagu, and Otolo. I know places in the southeast well. I even know the junction near Upper Iweka where the mentally unstable man who used to advise him stayed,” he explained.
He questioned Obi’s claim, adding,
“How can he say I have never been to Anambra?”
By detailing his travels, Bwala aimed to counter what he described as theatrical claims made by the former governor.
Critique of Obi’s Political Messaging
Bwala accused Obi of presenting an unrealistic version of hope, detached from Nigeria’s practical realities. Mocking his style, he labeled him a “character-in-chief.”
“In film, the actor plays a character. Obi is the character-in-chief because everything he does is performance. He portrays a fictional version of reality that does not and will never exist,” Bwala said.
He suggested that the disappointment among Obi’s supporters after the 2023 elections arose from a clash between expectations and reality.
“After the election and reality set in, they couldn’t handle the collapse of the fantasy they were sold. That’s why many became erratic online,” he remarked.
Bwala also highlighted the behavior of some supporters who, in their frustration, moved across online platforms to attack political opponents.
Lessons in Leadership
The adviser concluded with a reflection on political stability and experience. He emphasized that leadership is built on years of consistent effort and sacrifice, citing President Tinubu and other veteran politicians as examples of those who have cultivated durable political foundations.
Bwala’s remarks suggest a broader message about the contrast between performative politics and long-term governance, emphasizing the importance of grounded leadership over theatrics.
