Cameroon’s quest to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup faces a challenge after midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting sustained injuries during training in Morocco ahead of the African playoff stage.

The Indomitable Lions are scheduled to play DR Congo in the second semi-final of the World Cup playoffs today, with a win setting up a final clash on Sunday against the victor of the Gabon vs. Nigeria matchup.

Reports indicate that Anguissa picked up a muscular injury during a particularly intense training session, while Choupo-Moting was also sidelined with an injury on the same day.

Both players are undergoing additional medical assessments, casting serious doubt over their availability for the DR Congo fixture.

Gossip News Now notes that nine African teams have already earned direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, while one more African team will compete in the intercontinental playoffs set for March 2026.

Cameroon secured their playoff position after finishing second in Group D, following a 0-0 draw with Angola on the final qualifying day. They ended the group four points behind Cape Verde and ahead of Libya.

Despite the injury setbacks, captain Vincent Aboubakar and forward Bryan Mbeumo are expected to lead Cameroon’s charge.

Fans and analysts are eagerly awaiting updates from the team’s medical staff as the Indomitable Lions prepare for what could be a decisive step toward securing a spot at the World Cup.
