Former Chelsea and England striker, Chris Sutton, has released his predictions for the festive Premier League fixtures, with Boxing Day and the weekend set to serve up a busy and entertaining run of matches across England.
Matchday 18 of the Premier League is expected to deliver plenty of drama as teams at both ends of the table aim to finish the year on a positive note.
One of the headline encounters sees Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Boxing Day. Sutton believes the Magpies could spoil the occasion for the home fans, tipping Newcastle to grind out a narrow 1-0 victory. The pundit shared his views in his weekly prediction column for BBC Sport.
Saturday’s fixtures kick off with Nottingham Forest hosting defending champions Manchester City. Sutton expects Pep Guardiola’s side to assert their dominance, predicting a comfortable 2-0 away win.
At Anfield, Liverpool are backed to secure a 2-0 victory over Wolves, while Arsenal are tipped to continue their title charge with a convincing 2-0 win against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.
Elsewhere, Sutton predicts a close contest at the London Stadium, with Fulham edging West Ham 2-1 on the road. Brentford and Bournemouth are expected to cancel each other out in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
The Saturday evening games include Chelsea’s clash with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, with Sutton backing the Blues to come out on top by a 2-1 scoreline.
Attention then shifts to Sunday’s fixtures, where Sunderland are tipped to claim a slim 1-0 victory over Leeds United at the Stadium of Light. In south London, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are predicted to settle for a goalless draw.
