Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that club captain Marc Guehi has informed the team of his decision not to renew his contract and will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old defender’s deal expires next summer, and despite Palace’s efforts to tie him down to a new agreement, Guehi has decided it’s time to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
“They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different,’ and that’s normal,” Glasner revealed during his pre-match press conference. “Now we just have to find the best way to handle this situation and help him take his next step while keeping focus on the team.”
The development leaves Palace facing a tough decision — whether to cash in on their skipper during the January transfer window or risk losing him for free next summer.
Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has been a consistent performer and a leader in the squad, amassing 167 appearances and wearing the armband with distinction.
According to Gossip News Now, Guehi was close to completing a £35 million move to Liverpool last summer after reportedly passing a medical, but the deal collapsed when Palace failed to secure a replacement — Brighton’s Igor Julio — on deadline day.
So far this season, Guehi has been ever-present, featuring in all 12 matches across competitions and helping Palace to sixth place in the Premier League standings.
While Liverpool remain keen, top European clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the winter window.
Guehi’s strong form has also solidified his place in Gareth Southgate’s England setup. He earned his 26th cap in the 3–0 win over Wales earlier this month and remains optimistic about making the 2026 World Cup squad, whether or not he departs Crystal Palace before his contract expires.
