Popular content creator Esther Thomas, widely known as Sunshine, has tragically passed away following complications from a fibroid operation.
According to Gossip News Now , her family confirmed that she died on January 9, 2026, after undergoing surgery intended to remove fibroids.
In a statement shared on her Instagram page, the family wrote:
“We, the family of Esther Thomas (A.K.A Sunshine), with deep sorrow in our hearts, announce the sudden passing of our beloved daughter and sister … who died on January 9, 2026, after an unsuccessful surgical procedure.”
Sunshine had been battling intense stomach pain since late December 2025.
She initially sought medical care at Orchid General Hospital in Lagos, where she received only pain medication due to an ongoing doctors’ strike.
As her symptoms worsened, she was moved to another hospital on January 2 for additional evaluation and treatment.
Detailed medical tests found that she had developed a large fibroid, and doctors advised that surgery was necessary.
The operation was conducted and was first reported as successful.
Sadly, complications arose shortly afterward, which ultimately resulted in her death.
“Although the surgery was said to be successful, she later developed complications that caused her passing,” a fellow content creator explained.
Sunshine was admired for her comedic skits, modeling projects, brand collaborations, and appearances in various online videos.
Her family is currently preparing for her burial and has requested that friends and supporters allow them privacy as they navigate their grief.
