The Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti has adjourned until December 8, 2025, a case contesting the emergence of Wole Oluyede as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State.

Oluyede, declared winner of the PDP primary held on November 8, 2025, polled 279 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Funsho Ayeni and Funmi Ogun, in a primary conducted by the Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo-led electoral committee.

In the suit (FHC/AD/CS/29/2025), Ayeni is seeking to nullify Oluyede’s victory, alleging that the primary was flawed. At Friday’s proceedings, Kola Kolade, SAN, led Ayeni’s legal team, while Oluyede was represented by Ola Olanipekun, SAN, and Barr. Owoseni Ajayi. The PDP was represented by its Osun State Legal Adviser, Barr. Ola Alonge.

Justice Babs Ikuewumi assured the parties that the case would receive urgent attention and promised a “speedy hearing” before adjourning to December 8, 2025.

In a related development, PDP chieftain Umar Sani explained why Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke did not participate in the party’s primary. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Sani alleged that Adeleke avoided the exercise due to internal party disputes, which he believed could prevent the PDP from producing a validly recognised candidate.

Sani further claimed that the governor intended to temporarily defect to another party to secure a ticket before returning to the PDP.

Sani, who chaired the three-man ad hoc delegates committee for Osun, stated that he personally oversaw the delegate election in Osogbo, describing the exercise as peaceful. He confirmed that the results were uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal and officially acknowledged.

He emphasized that the party rejected any attempt to circumvent the process, insisting that all aspirants must contest on the PDP platform to safeguard the party’s integrity.
