A market survey conducted by Naija News shows that the cost of refilling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly referred to as cooking gas, continues to vary across different parts of Nigeria.

While a few filling stations have made slight price reductions, others still charge higher rates due to differences in depot purchase costs, logistics, and regional factors.

As of this report, BOVAS filling stations and Ise-Olorun outlets are selling at ₦990 per kilogram, making them the most affordable providers in recent months.

In comparison, Rainoil outlets are selling at ₦1,020/kg, while several independent distributors charge between ₦1,100 and ₦1,150/kg, depending on supply chain expenses and operational overheads.

Price Breakdown by Cylinder Size (Based on ₦990/kg)

  • 1kg – ₦990
  • 3kg – ₦2,970
  • 5kg – ₦4,950
  • 10kg – ₦9,900
  • 12kg – ₦11,880
  • 12.5kg – ₦12,375

Key Factors Driving LPG Price Differences

  1. Depot Landing Costs – The price at which LPG is purchased from depots remains the strongest influence on retail rates.
  2. Transportation Costs – Rising diesel prices and trucking expenses push logistics costs higher, especially for inland areas far from coastal depots.
  3. Exchange Rate Fluctuations – Volatility in the naira-to-dollar rate affects the cost of imported LPG and related equipment.
  4. Regional Demand – Areas with limited supply or stronger demand often experience higher prices.
  5. Distributor Markups – Independent dealers typically add extra charges to cover overhead, resulting in higher retail prices for consumers.
