The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated a total of ₦2.93 trillion in revenue for 2025—an increase of ₦573.29 billion compared to the ₦2.36 trillion collected in 2024.

This marks a 24.32% year-on-year rise, further solidifying Apapa Command’s status as the country’s top revenue-earning port.

Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, the Customs Area Controller, credited the impressive performance to strong leadership, disciplined personnel, and the enhanced use of technology under the direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

He also praised stakeholders who complied with trade rules, noting that their cooperation played a key role in boosting revenue.

“One of the major drivers of this success was the adoption of the Unified Customs Management System, popularly called B’Odogwu, which improved transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the cargo clearance process,” he stated.

Oshoba added that consistent performance reviews and swift revenue recovery measures also contributed to the year’s results.

On trade facilitation, he explained that the Command intensified sensitisation efforts after the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme.

He further revealed that the One-Stop Shop initiative was expanded to speed up documentation and ensure quicker release of compliant consignments.

“Work is at an advanced stage for the deployment of the FS6000 cargo scanner, a non-intrusive system capable of handling up to 200 containers per hour,” he added.

The Controller also disclosed that Apapa Command made major enforcement breakthroughs in 2025, seizing 53 containers loaded with illegal drugs and other banned goods.

Items seized included cocaine, Canadian Loud, tramadol and expired pharmaceuticals, with a total Duty Paid Value of ₦12.63 billion.

“Some of these intercepted consignments have been transferred to agencies like the NDLEA and NAFDAC for further investigation and potential prosecution,” Oshoba noted.

Looking forward, he expressed confidence that revenue figures would rise even higher in 2026.

He said this expectation is based on deeper integration of B’Odogwu, broader AEO Programme adoption, expansion of the One-Stop Shop model, improved intelligence-based enforcement and stronger collaboration with other security agencies.

Comptroller Oshoba also pledged increased engagement with terminal operators, shipping firms, licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, haulage companies and the media.

He emphasized that these efforts aim to strengthen transparency, compliance and smooth trade operations at the country’s busiest port.
