Following the conclusion of the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 1, Nigerian music sensation Davido addressed his experience after missing out on the accolade.

The DMW boss had been nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Omah Lay on the track With You. Despite his strong showing, the award went to South African artist Tyla for her song Push 2 Start.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Davido posted images from the event accompanied by a brief message:
“Oluwa Dey My Side,” signaling his faith and optimism despite the outcome.

Nigeria had a powerful presence in the category, with three acts shortlisted: Davido and Omah Lay (With You), Burna Boy (Love), and Ayra Starr alongside Wizkid (Gimme Dat). Other nominees included Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin. However, none of the Nigerian entries secured the win this year.

The Best African Music Performance category, designed to showcase African talent on the global stage, highlighted the continued influence of Nigerian music internationally. Three of the five finalists hailed from Nigeria, reflecting the country’s dominant creative footprint in African contemporary music.

Tyla’s win marks her second time claiming this award, having first been recognised in 2024 for her hit single Water, which made her the inaugural recipient of the category. The 24-year-old South African singer-songwriter is celebrated for her unique blend of amapiano, pop, and R&B, a sound that has earned her growing acclaim worldwide.
