Nigerian music star Davido has spoken publicly for the first time following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards, which took place on Sunday, February 1.

Gossip News Now reports that Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Omah Lay, With You, but did not secure the award.

In the aftermath of the ceremony, the singer took to his Instagram page to share photos from the event, accompanied by a brief but reflective caption: “Oluwa Dey My Side.”

The award in the category was won by South African artiste Tyla, who claimed the honour for her song Push 2 Start.

The Best African Music Performance category featured strong Nigerian representation, including Burna Boy’s Love, Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, as well as Gimme Dat, a joint entry by Ayra Starr and Wizkid. Also nominated were Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

Despite Nigeria’s dominant presence on the shortlist, none of the country’s nominees emerged as winners in the category.

Introduced to spotlight African sounds on the global stage, the Best African Music Performance category once again highlighted Nigeria’s influence in contemporary African music, with three Nigerian acts making the final nominations list.

Tyla’s victory marks her second win in the category, having previously secured the award in 2024 for her hit single Water, which made her the first-ever recipient of the honour.

The 24-year-old South African singer and songwriter is widely recognised for her fusion of amapiano, pop, and R&B influences, a sound that has continued to gain international acclaim.
