Veteran Nollywood actor, Dele Odule, has debunked claims that he suffered heartbreak from a relationship with a young female student, clarifying that the story was a complete misinterpretation of his motivational post.
In a recent interview with Punch, Odule said the viral story stemmed from people twisting his words on social media, turning a harmless piece of advice into sensational gossip.
He explained that while he can be disappointed by people — including friends, family, or even his children — no one can ever “break his heart.”
“Nobody broke my heart; nobody can break my heart. I can only get disappointed. That disappointment can come from anyone — a friend, family member, or even my child. But heartbreak, no,” he said.
Reacting to claims that the alleged heartbreak came from a 200-level student, the actor laughed off the story, calling it absurd.
“Someone said it was a 200-level student. I laughed. My first daughter is a lecturer with a PhD; how can a 200-level student break my heart? That would be silly.
If I were ever to be involved with such a person, it would only be a passing fancy — nothing serious.”
Odule further criticised the way people manipulate social media content for clout and engagement, often at the cost of truth and integrity.
“People now use social media for clout and money, even at the expense of integrity. At one point, they said I had 10 children with 10 women. I simply agreed because it’s not a crime in Nigeria. If it’s a sin, I’ll answer for it in heaven.”
Speaking about his career, the veteran actor emphasized that he doesn’t choose roles based on preference but focuses on interpreting every character assigned to him with excellence.
“I don’t choose roles; they are chosen for me. My duty as an actor is to interpret whatever role I’m given. That’s the essence of acting,” he added.
