Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State converged on Osogbo on Tuesday for the party’s governorship primary election.
Party members were seen arriving at the Adolak Hall as early as 11:04 a.m., filling the venue to capacity under tight security as preparations for voting commenced.
The primary is taking place despite hours of uncertainty on Monday, when conflicting statements from party leaders caused tension within the Osun PDP.
Gossip News Now earlier reported that the State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, had announced the withdrawal of the primary, citing the crisis at the party’s national level.
However, the PDP National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, countered the announcement almost immediately, insisting that the primary would proceed as scheduled.
At the venue on Tuesday, the party’s Electoral Committee was fully assembled and supervising the crucial candidate selection process. The committee, led by Chairman Humphrey Abba, included senior officials and members drawn from various institutional and governance bodies. Among them were:
- Chief Marc Jacob
- Chief Sanya Atofarati
- Chief Anene Azubuike
- Dr. Sunday Solarin (Secretary)
- Mrs. Scholastical Kenebi
- Mrs. Splendour Josephine
(Erroneous repetitions in the earlier list have been corrected.)
INEC officials were also present, serving strictly as observers and ensuring proper documentation of proceedings.
The primary comes just hours after news broke that Governor Ademola Adeleke had withdrawn from the PDP race—a significant development that unfolded shortly before the Electoral Committee and delegates fully convened for the exercise.
