The Lagos State Police Command has declared a doctor, identified as Dr. Idara Bassey, wanted following the death of a 36-year-old woman, Abiola, during a buttocks enlargement surgery at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that an arrest warrant has been issued for Bassey.
Abiola, a resident of Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, reportedly left home on Monday for the clinic, accompanied by her driver. According to the driver, she lost consciousness shortly after a nurse—allegedly acting under Bassey’s instructions—administered an injection. She began gasping for air and could not be revived.
The nurse involved has since been arrested, but the clinic’s owner, Dr. Bassey, fled and is now on the run.
The procedure, commonly referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), involves transferring fat from one part of the body to the buttocks. While popular, the surgery has been widely flagged by medical experts as high-risk due to the possibility of severe complications, including sudden death.
Police have launched a full investigation, with Hundeyin confirming that Dr. Bassey remains a prime suspect in the case.
