Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the Igbo community to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next election cycle, urging them to adopt a more strategic approach to national politics.
Kalu, who represents the Bende Federal Constituency, made the appeal during a series of courtesy visits across Abia State’s three senatorial districts — Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South.
According to the lawmaker, the most realistic pathway to producing an Igbo president lies in forging strong political alliances, particularly through sustained cooperation with the South West.
He also reiterated President Tinubu’s directive to leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to deepen engagement with party stakeholders at all levels.
During his visits, Kalu met with key political figures across the state. In Abia North, he paid a courtesy call on former Senate Chief Whip and former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Kalu. In Abia Central, he met with Senator John Bob Nwannunu, while in Abia South, he visited APC stalwart and former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Hallmark Bank, Mac Wabara.
The deputy speaker urged Igbo voters to be deliberate and pragmatic in their political decisions, stressing that electoral power should be treated as an investment rather than wasted on emotional or symbolic gestures.
He called on APC leaders and stakeholders to immediately step up grassroots mobilisation and strategic outreach to secure a decisive victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
Kalu declared that the era of settling for a mere 25 percent vote share for the president in Abia State had passed, noting that the APC now possesses the organisational strength, political momentum, and grassroots structure needed to achieve an outright win.
He commended President Tinubu’s leadership style, acknowledging that while some policies were initially difficult, they were pursued with resolve and are now yielding positive results.
According to him, a leader who demonstrates courage and consistency in policy implementation deserves support, adding that it is encouraging that the gains being recorded are under an APC-led government.
Kalu urged Igbos not to squander their votes on sentimental grounds, emphasizing that political negotiations are driven by numbers, not emotions.
He explained that casting votes where they do not translate into political leverage amounts to losing the opportunity to negotiate for meaningful returns.
Drawing an analogy to business, he noted that no investor expects dividends without first making a commitment, adding that votes represent the political capital required to secure future benefits.
Kalu said the coming months would present a critical opportunity for political investment, urging Igbo voters to ensure their ballots are deployed where they will have the most impact.
He concluded by asserting that, based on current political calculations, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents the most viable platform for Igbo political investment, insisting that votes cast in his favor would count and deliver tangible influence.
