Dotun Accuses US Embassy of Enabling Child Abduction

Popular Nigerian OAP Dotun Kayode has accused the United States embassy in Nigeria of facilitating the elopement of his estranged wife with their two daughters.

Dotun’s estranged wife, Taiwo Omotayo Oyebanjo, filed for divorce in 2021, citing domestic violence, emotional abuse, and a forced abortion—allegations that Dotun has consistently denied. In turn, he claimed that Taiwo and her family deliberately obstructed his access to their children.

Recently, Dotun took to social media to allege that the US embassy played a role in what he describes as international child abduction. He claimed that his wife unlawfully removed their daughters from Nigeria and took them to the US three years ago, despite an active divorce and custody case at the Federal High Court.

Dotun stated that he had possession of the children’s original passports and that a court order explicitly barred them from being taken out of the country.

He called for accountability from the embassy, specifically naming former Consular General Mary Beth Leonard, alleging that the consular process was compromised and biased, enabling his estranged wife’s actions.

“Be assured, papers were most likely forged, or games played. The American embassy in Nigeria is an enabler of child abduction. Very biased. No proper investigation. They destroy families and do not protect kids. I have written for years and kept quiet for 3 years. It’s time. I have realised you all think you uphold a fair system, but you are very unfair,” he said.

Dotun demanded that the embassy either return his children or provide a transparent explanation of how its strict two-parent consent policy was bypassed, allowing what he considers an illegal international parental abduction.
