He continued, “He needs to heal, mentally and physically. There’s nothing to talk about at this point. Let him be. Let’s just pray for him and the families affected by this terrible incident.”

Though Hearn stopped short of formally confirming a retirement, members of Joshua’s family suggest the decision may already have been made. Adedamola Joshua, the boxer’s uncle, told The Punch that the champion had informed the family of his choice to step away from the sport. “The most important thing is that he has retired from boxing. Meanwhile, funeral prayers for Ghami and Ayodele were held on January 4 at the London Central Mosque, providing a moment for friends, family, and the boxing community to honor the deceased.

Both Latif Ayodele, known as Healthy Mindset, and Sina Ghami were integral to Joshua’s training environment.
