Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulazeez Adediran, widely known as Jandor, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for economic reforms he says have strengthened grassroots governance by improving funding for local governments nationwide.
Jandor made the remarks following a private meeting with the President at his Lagos residence during the Christmas holiday period.
Reflecting on the engagement, the former PDP flagbearer described the discussion as productive and enlightening, noting that President Tinubu stressed the importance of cooperation and shared vision between the Federal Government and state administrations.
“I had the opportunity to meet with Mr President while he was in Lagos for the Christmas holidays, and our discussion was both engaging and insightful,” Jandor said.
“He highlighted the need for sustained alignment between the Federal Government and the states to ensure effective governance.”
Now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after his recent defection, Jandor said he briefed the President on developments at the local government level in Lagos State, particularly the progress recorded within the first 100 days of the current councils.
According to him, increased allocations from the federation account have empowered local governments to deliver visible projects within a short time frame.
“After attending some of the 100-day celebrations of our local councils, I reported to Mr President the tangible progress being made with the funds released to them,” he explained.
“Local governments in Lagos are now commissioning roads, primary healthcare centres, customary courts and other infrastructure projects within just 100 days in office.”
Jandor attributed the improved performance of councils to what he described as President Tinubu’s bold economic reforms and firm stance on transparency and accountability in public finance management.
He also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s political future, stating that the President’s influence continues to expand across the country. Jandor, who came third in the 2023 Lagos governorship election, has already signalled his intention to contest the state’s top seat again in 2027.
