Former National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Udeh-Okoye, has officially resigned from the party, citing a loss of faith in its leadership and guiding principles.
Gossip News Now reports that Udeh-Okoye announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Agbogugu Ward, Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
In the letter, the former PDP National Secretary expressed deep disappointment over what he described as the party’s deviation from the vision and ideals of its founding fathers.
“I wish to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decision did not come lightly,” he wrote.
Udeh-Okoye acknowledged the significant role the PDP played in shaping his political career, providing him the platform to serve as a Member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, National Youth Leader, and most recently, National Secretary.
“For these privileges of service and trust, I remain profoundly grateful to the party, its leaders, and members at all levels,” he noted.
However, the politician lamented that the party has lost touch with its founding values of unity, justice, and equity.
“Over time, I have watched with increasing concern as the ideals and vision of the founding fathers of the PDP have been eroded. The PDP that once stood as a beacon of hope for democratic governance has regrettably lost its moral compass and ideological direction,” he added.
Udeh-Okoye concluded that he could no longer remain part of a system that has “strayed far from its original purpose,” pledging instead to pursue a progressive political path aimed at restoring democracy, accountability, and service to the people.
His resignation adds to the growing list of defections and internal crises currently rocking the PDP across several states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
