Popular Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has expressed deep concern over the continued use of religion and ethnicity to divide Nigerians.
In a recent post, Falz said it is painful to see citizens still allowing tribal and religious differences to fuel hostility and conflict, stressing that such sentiments have caused long-standing damage to national unity.
His comments followed a heated online clash between groups of Christian and Muslim youths after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened military action in Nigeria, claiming it was to protect Christians from alleged extremist attacks. The remark sparked renewed tensions and rivalry among young social media users.
Calling for unity, Falz urged Nigerians to rise above divisive rhetoric and think independently rather than falling for manipulation.
“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves,” he wrote.
Similarly, comedian and skit-maker Nasboi appealed to Nigerians to look beyond religious and ethnic lines and instead hold leaders accountable. He lamented the silence of citizens in the face of widespread corruption, noting past cases where huge public funds vanished without consequences.
