Tension gripped Bagudo, Kebbi State, on Tuesday morning after an explosion occurred within the premises of the local General Hospital, sparking fear among residents.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, emphasizing that no casualties or injuries were reported. Despite the absence of physical harm, the blast sent shockwaves through the community, prompting many to flee their homes in fear of further danger.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, explained that security agencies acted quickly to secure the site and prevent any escalation. “The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to reassure members of the public that the situation is under full control following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” he stated.
A joint task force comprising police, military personnel, and local vigilantes was immediately deployed to the scene. Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) specialists were brought in to assess the situation.
Usman added that while one structure within the hospital staff quarters sustained damage, all occupants had safely evacuated prior to the incident.
Additional tactical units were deployed following directives from the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, aiming to strengthen security and reassure residents of their safety.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and have pledged to update the public as findings emerge. Residents were advised to stay calm and avoid the hospital area to allow security personnel to conduct their work without interference.
