Residents of Bagudo in Kebbi State were thrown into panic on Tuesday morning after an explosion occurred within the premises of the General Hospital in the area.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident but stated that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.
Reports indicate that the explosion happened in the early hours of the day, sending shockwaves through the surrounding community and prompting residents to flee the area in fear of further danger.
Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies responded swiftly to the incident to secure the location and prevent any escalation.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to reassure members of the public that the situation is under full control following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said.
According to him, a joint security task force made up of police officers, military personnel, and local vigilantes was immediately deployed to the scene. The area was cordoned off while Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts were brought in to assess the site.
Usman confirmed that although a structure within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage, all occupants had evacuated the area before the incident and were safe.
He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State had ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to strengthen security and reassure residents.
A thorough investigation has since been launched to determine the cause of the explosion, with authorities promising to provide further updates as findings emerge.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and steer clear of the hospital surroundings to allow security operatives to carry out their investigations without hindrance.
