Fenerbahce have stepped up their pursuit of Ademola Lookman, preparing an opening bid for the Atalanta forward as the Turkish club aims to make a high-profile signing in the January transfer window.

According to reports from Italy, the Istanbul-based side plan to submit a structured offer designed to gauge Atalanta’s stance on the Nigerian international.

Sport Mediaset journalist Orazio Accomando revealed that the proposal would take the form of a paid loan worth €5 million, with an option—or potential obligation—to buy at €37 million, bringing the total package to €42 million.

“Fenerbahce continue to monitor the situation of Ademola Lookman. The Turkish club are preparing an offer for a paid loan worth €5m, with a purchase option or obligation set at €37m,” the report confirmed.

Although discussions are still in the early stages, Lookman has emerged as a priority for Fenerbahce as they seek to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.

Atalanta, however, are reported to prefer a permanent sale and are hesitant to consider any deal that delays a full transfer.

“Atalanta would prefer a permanent transfer, but developments remain possible,” Sport Mediaset added.

The Bergamo club values Lookman highly due to his consistent performances in Serie A and European competitions. Consequently, they are cautious about agreeing to a temporary deal unless the terms are particularly favourable.

Despite being a key figure in Atalanta’s plans, interest in the winger continues to mount, with Fenerbahce now ready to make their intentions public.

Lookman is currently representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he has been one of the Super Eagles’ standout performers.

The winger has already contributed three goals and four assists, placing him among the top candidates for the tournament’s most valuable player accolade as Nigeria chases a fourth continental title.

Fenerbahce’s move follows a summer of speculation linking Lookman to Inter Milan, with reports at the time indicating the forward was open to leaving Atalanta. However, Inter were unable to meet the club’s valuation, and Lookman remained in Bergamo.

Any progress in the coming weeks will likely hinge on whether Fenerbahce are willing to convert their offer into a permanent transfer or agree to an obligation to buy that meets Atalanta’s demands.
