The Federal Government has announced that all outstanding match bonuses owed to the Super Eagles at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have now been fully released, after resolving administrative lapses and foreign exchange delays.

The update was confirmed by the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, in a statement posted on her verified 𝕏 account on Thursday.

According to the minister, the payments were processed after the government, working closely with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), addressed the foreign exchange-related challenges that had stalled earlier disbursements.

“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025,”
she stated.
“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay.”

Uzoka-Anite confirmed that all group-stage bonuses had been approved, cleared through regulatory channels, and that transfers to the players’ accounts were already in progress.

The announcement comes amid reports of rising tension in the national camp, with the Super Eagles allegedly considering a protest — including threatening not to travel to Marrakech for their clash against Algeria — unless the bonuses for all three group-stage matches and the round of 16 were settled by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Responding to concerns over payment methods, the minister explained that the government introduced a fast-track process to ensure payments were made in the players’ preferred currency.

“We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences,”
she noted.

She added that final disbursements to players’ domiciliary accounts were already being processed and should reflect shortly.

“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow.”

Uzoka-Anite further assured that structural changes had been put in place to prevent similar delays in future tournaments.

“Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice,”
she said.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to the team, she emphasized that the Super Eagles’ welfare remains a top priority as the competition enters its decisive phase.

“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds. We move forward with one goal: bringing the trophy home.”
