A notable figure within the Peoples Democratic Party, Abdullahi Hussaini MaiBasira, has formally stepped away from the party, bringing an end to his long-standing association with the political organization.

MaiBasira, who previously served as both National Youth Leader and National Financial Secretary of the party, confirmed that his resignation takes immediate effect.

Formal Resignation Submitted

The decision was conveyed through a letter dated December 22, 2025. The document was addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Tudun Wada South Ward in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Minna, Niger State.

In the message, the former party official informed the local leadership that he was withdrawing his membership from the party structure at all levels.

Gratitude for Opportunities

Despite his exit, MaiBasira expressed appreciation to the party for the roles and responsibilities entrusted to him during his time as a member.

He acknowledged that his involvement with the PDP provided him with opportunities to serve both in national leadership positions and in other supporting roles within the party’s organisational framework.

A Difficult Decision

MaiBasira indicated that leaving the party was not an easy choice. He explained that he had remained loyal to the PDP for many years since the time he first joined the organization.

However, according to him, changing political realities eventually compelled him to reconsider his position and pursue a different direction.

Changing Political Circumstances

In his resignation statement, the former youth leader referenced what he described as challenging circumstances within the political environment.

He suggested that these developments created a situation that made it necessary for him to reassess his future within the party and explore new possibilities in his political journey.

Goodwill Toward Party Members

Although he has left the PDP, MaiBasira extended warm wishes to members of the party’s leadership and supporters.

He expressed respect for the ward executives in Minna, as well as for PDP members across Niger State and the country, noting that he continues to hold them in high regard.

Future Political Direction Still Unclear

At the time of his resignation, MaiBasira did not reveal which political platform he might join next. His next step in Nigeria’s political landscape therefore remains uncertain.

Nevertheless, his exit has generated speculation among political observers.

Possible Alignment With ADC

Some analysts believe MaiBasira could eventually associate with the African Democratic Congress, a party that has recently gained attention as an emerging opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.

The speculation is partly linked to MaiBasira’s long-standing support for Atiku Abubakar, whose political alliances continue to influence developments within Nigeria’s opposition space.

Commentary and Analysis

MaiBasira’s resignation highlights the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape as parties and politicians reposition themselves ahead of future elections.

When influential figures depart from established parties, the move often signals deeper shifts within political alliances and internal party dynamics.

For the PDP, the exit of a former national youth leader may raise questions about unity within the party structure, particularly as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 electoral cycle.

At the same time, the possibility of new alliances forming around alternative platforms such as the ADC reflects a broader trend in Nigerian politics, where emerging coalitions frequently reshape the balance of opposition forces.

Whether MaiBasira ultimately joins another party or charts a different path altogether, his decision underscores the ongoing realignment that often characterizes political competition in the country.
