Gunmen, locally referred to as bandits, carried out multiple abductions in Kaduna State on Monday night, including the kidnapping of an elderly woman in Southern Kaduna, just 48 hours after her son and another resident were killed in Arak village, Sanga Local Government Area.
The victim, Mrs. Averik Arak, was abducted along with her granddaughter. Her son, Habila Averik, the child’s father, was among those killed during a deadly attack on the community on Saturday. Sources told Sahara Reporters that Mrs. Arak was still mourning her son, who was reportedly killed in her presence, when the bandits returned to abduct her, despite her being ill.
In separate incidents across Kajuru and Kauru Local Government Areas, bandits kidnapped additional villagers. At Unguwan Sarki Maro in Kajuru, at least 15 villagers—mostly minors—were abducted during a night raid. Meanwhile, in Kadage village, Kauru LGA, approximately 16 residents were kidnapped and one person was killed.
A local source from Kadage disclosed that more than 100 people from seven surrounding communities had been abducted between December 1, 2025, and January 4, 2026, and lamented what he described as a media blackout over the resurgence of kidnappings and killings in the region.
Earlier, in Kachia, Southern Kaduna, bandits killed four members of a family during an overnight attack. The victims—Bitrus Bahago, his wife Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and relative Adam Waziri—were attacked late Friday night near the newly established Federal University of Applied Science, the headquarters of Kachia LGA.
According to witnesses, the gunmen stormed the area in large numbers, opening fire indiscriminately and leaving several residents injured. The wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Residents described the attack as terrifying, highlighting that Kachia has experienced repeated assaults by armed groups despite its proximity to major institutions and security formations.
As of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the latest incidents.
