The lingering crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh turn, with reports indicating that loyalists of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, are allegedly plotting to frustrate the party’s forthcoming national convention.
According to Daily Sun, Wike’s camp is said to be strategizing on ways to derail the convention scheduled for November 16, despite warnings issued by the party to members accused of working against its preparations.
Insiders revealed that the minister remains adamant, insisting that unless the South-South zonal executives loyal to him are officially recognised, there will be no peace within the party. His group is reportedly considering both legal and political maneuvers to achieve its aim.
One party source told the publication:
“From the onset, we feared this might happen. Since the minister is part of the current government, the option of heading to court was always on the table. He continues to make new demands, and if we keep giving in, we risk handing over the entire party structure to him, which we cannot allow.”
The source further explained that Wike’s loyalists have begun stirring disputes during state congresses, describing it as a calculated move to destabilize the process leading up to the national convention.
