A senior official of the All Progressives Congress in the South-South region, Victor Giadom, has stated that the political influence of Nyesom Wike remains dominant in parts of Rivers State.

Speaking during Wike’s appreciation visit to the people of Gokana, Giadom argued that political victories in the area are closely tied to the support of the former governor. According to him, local loyalty to Wike continues to shape electoral outcomes within the community.

He suggested that even the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, would struggle to secure political success in the area without Wike’s endorsement.

Addressing the gathering, Giadom described Gokana as a territory firmly aligned with Wike and the leadership of Bola Tinubu. He maintained that the community’s political direction remains consistent with that alignment.

In his remarks, he emphasized that the people of the local government area remain loyal to the FCT minister, suggesting that rival political figures would find it difficult to gain electoral traction there.

Former lawmaker Magnus Abe also spoke at the event, praising Wike’s leadership style and influence in the region. Abe described him as a leader capable of bringing different political interests together.

According to Abe, the unity built around Wike has helped consolidate support for President Tinubu in the area. He even suggested that the president enjoys such strong backing locally that campaigning there might not be necessary.

Another voice at the gathering was Dumle Maol, who assured the FCT minister that the people of Gokana remain committed to following his political direction.

Similarly, the chairman of the local government council, Confidence Deko, credited Wike’s previous development projects for the community’s continued loyalty.

Deko indicated that the people of the area would demonstrate their political support clearly whenever future elections take place.

Responding to the warm reception, Wike expressed gratitude to the residents, explaining that the visit was meant to acknowledge their consistent backing over the years.

He encouraged the community to maintain unity and collective purpose, stating that cooperation often leads to political and developmental progress.

The FCT minister also pointed out that political actors from both the Peoples Democratic Party and the APC in Rivers State are already collaborating in support of the federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda under President Tinubu.

Commentary and Analysis

The statements made during the Gokana visit highlight the continuing political tension and shifting alliances within Rivers State politics.

Since the emergence of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the relationship between political camps linked to Wike and other stakeholders has remained a central topic in the state’s political discourse.

Observers note that Wike’s long tenure as governor helped him build a significant political network across many communities in Rivers State. This influence continues to shape political conversations even after his transition to a federal cabinet role.

Events such as the Gokana gathering also demonstrate how local political support structures can play a decisive role in determining electoral outcomes in Nigeria’s highly competitive political landscape.
