Fulham head coach Marco Silva has voiced concern about the possible temporary loss of Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, who could soon depart to join the Nigeria national football team for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The winger recently delivered a standout performance in Fulham’s thrilling Premier League encounter against Manchester City. Despite coming on as a substitute, Chukwueze netted two goals in a dramatic match that ended 5–4 at Craven Cottage.
While his brace marked a personal milestone since joining the club on loan, the result still went in favour of Manchester City. The match itself became one of the season’s most entertaining fixtures, with both teams producing a flurry of attacking moments.
Silva praised the Nigerian international’s improving form, noting that the winger appears to be growing more confident with each appearance. However, the Fulham manager admitted that the club faces the prospect of losing him again for international duty in the near future.
According to Gossip News Now, Chukwueze is expected to report to Nigeria’s national team camp as preparations begin for the continental tournament scheduled to kick off in Morocco later in December.
Silva explained that the club intends to maximise Chukwueze’s contributions before he leaves, stressing that the player has become an increasingly important attacking option within Fulham’s squad.
The dramatic result against Manchester City also had implications beyond Fulham. The victory helped City reduce the gap between themselves and league leaders Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title.
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes the title race is far from decided. He suggested that Manchester City could eventually overtake Arsenal later in the season as fixture congestion and injuries begin to affect competing teams.
According to Friedel, although Arsenal have been playing impressive football, the demanding schedule expected in the coming months—particularly with European and domestic cup commitments—could allow City to close the gap.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will attempt to maintain their position at the summit of the league table when they face Brentford in their next fixture.
Commentary and Analysis
International tournaments such as AFCON often create a difficult balance for European clubs with African players. While representing their national teams is a major honour, clubs sometimes struggle during the period when key players are absent.
For Fulham, Chukwueze’s recent performances highlight the impact he can have on the squad. Losing a player who has begun to deliver decisive attacking contributions could affect the team’s rhythm during a crucial phase of the season.
At the same time, the Premier League title race continues to intensify. With only a narrow points gap separating the top teams, every result could significantly influence the final standings as the campaign approaches its decisive stages.
