Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that defender Gabriel Magalhães is a major doubt for Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace after sustaining an injury in midweek.
The Brazilian centre-back was substituted during Tuesday’s match against Atletico Madrid due to what Arteta described as “an issue” and has yet to return to full training.
“Gabi had to leave the pitch with an issue, and he hasn’t been able to train yet,” Arteta told reporters on Friday. “We’ll see how he responds in the next 24 hours to determine if he’ll be available for the weekend.”
Gabriel’s potential absence poses a defensive headache for Arsenal, with the 27-year-old being one of the club’s most consistent performers and a key part of their backline during last season’s title challenge.
Arteta also provided updates on Noni Madueke, Kai Havertz, and captain Martin Ødegaard, confirming that the trio remains unavailable as they continue their recovery.
“They’re all progressing really well and have started light activities,” Arteta explained. “They’re eager to return as soon as possible, but for now, none of them will be in contention over the next week.”
Arsenal will be hoping for positive news on Gabriel’s fitness ahead of their home fixture at the Emirates Stadium, as they look to maintain momentum in the league.
