Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has landed in Kano State to take part in the official ceremony marking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s declaration of allegiance to the ruling party.
His arrival coincides with intensified political activities across the state, as the APC finalises preparations to formally welcome the Kano governor following his planned defection.
It was gathered that Ganduje recently returned to Nigeria from London, where he attended the graduation ceremony of his daughter, Fatima Ganduje, at King’s College London.
Fatima, who is married to Idris Ajimobi — the son of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi — completed her Master’s degree programme at the prestigious university on Thursday.
The former Kano State governor reportedly touched down in Abuja aboard a British Airways flight at about 5:30 am on Monday and is expected to proceed to Kano later in the day to begin a series of major political engagements.
In a statement released by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, Ganduje is scheduled to participate in the APC’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise — a project he initiated during his tenure as the party’s national chairman.
The statement further disclosed that Ganduje would play a prominent role in the programmes lined up for the formal reception of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the APC.
The anticipated declaration of Yusuf’s APC membership is expected to attract party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across Kano State and other parts of the country.
Today’s event in Kano is believed to be part of the APC’s broader strategy to reinforce its political structure in the state and solidify recent political shifts ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
