Former Governor of Kano State and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed strong displeasure over remarks allegedly made about him by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Ganduje reportedly found the comments to be offensive and unnecessary.
This disclosure was made by the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, during a media briefing with journalists.
Dan’agundi explained that Ganduje personally communicated his unhappiness regarding the statements attributed to Kwankwaso.
According to him, “Dr. Ganduje told me clearly that he was deeply unhappy with the remarks made by Senator Kwankwaso against him.”
He further stated that Ganduje accused Kwankwaso of labeling him “maƙiyi,” meaning “enemy,” while speaking to his supporters.
The controversial comments reportedly came at a time when Kwankwaso was also accusing the current Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, of attempting to seize control of state institutions to target political rivals.
Dan’agundi noted that Ganduje considered the remarks completely unnecessary, particularly at a period when Kano State requires unity, peace, and shared commitment to progress.
He added that Ganduje believes the potential return of Governor Yusuf to the APC should be regarded as an avenue for reconciliation rather than an opportunity to revive political hostility.
“In Ganduje’s assessment, Governor Yusuf’s return to the APC should provide a platform for all stakeholders to unite, put aside lingering disagreements, and concentrate on advancing the development of Kano State,” Dan’agundi added.
He emphasized that Ganduje feels both he and Kwankwaso, given their age and extensive political experience, should now be playing the role of elder statesmen.
According to him, “Ganduje believes there is no justification for ongoing conflict, as both men have reached a stage where personal political ambitions should no longer be a driving force.”
Regarding reports that Governor Yusuf may be returning to the APC, Dan’agundi described the development as highly encouraging.
“It is a moment of happiness for us. All APC leaders, stakeholders, and supporters in Kano are delighted and optimistic about the Governor’s return,” he said.
He revealed that plans were already being arranged to formally welcome the governor back into the party at both state and national levels.
However, he pointed out that the process had slowed due to the Umrah trip of the Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, and Ganduje’s temporary absence from the country.
“Once they are back, a special meeting will be held with His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his delegation to finalize the arrangements,” he assured.
Dan’agundi concluded by calling for peace and unity in Kano State, expressing hope that the governor’s return would usher in long-lasting stability and development across the state.
